Overview

The word Navratri is formed using two words 'Nava' and 'Ratri'. Nava means nine and Ratri means nights hence Navratri literally means nine nights. During the festival of Navratri, Maa Durga is worshipped and revered in her various forms for nine nights. Navratri is celebrated four times a year, during the Navratri Festival the nine manifestations of Goddess Durga are revered and worshipped for nine nights and ten days. The four different Navratri that are celebrated are Magh Navratri, also known as Gupt Navratri (January – February), Vasant Navratri, also known as Chaitra Navratri (March - April), Ashad Navratri, also known as Gupt Navratri (June – July) and Shardiya Navratri, also known as Maha Navratri (September - October). It is considered really sanctified to make a pilgrimage tour to the Shaktipeeths & Devi Temples in Himachal Pradesh.

Itinerary
Day 1: Pathankot-Dharamshala
A week of your spiritual journey starts from Pathankot.On your arrival at Pathankot or Chakki Bank railway station you will be received by our representative at the railway stataion.If you wish you can freshen up at or proceed to Chintpurni Devi Temple by road. It is around 3-4 hours journey for Dharamshala.On reaching Dharamshala check in to your prebooked hotel at Mcleoganj. After taking bit rest,you can visit the Mall Road of McLeodganj which has a distinctly different character, with its brightly painted buildings, Buddhist temples, prayer flags fluttering in the air and saffron monks and nuns hurrying along the streets.Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day2: Dharamshala-Chamunda Devi-Kangra Devi-Jwala Ji
In the morning after breakfast check out from the hotel & visit some of the famous points near Mcleodganj such as Dal Lake,Naddi etc. Later proceed for Kangra Devi Via Chamunda Devi temple. The Chamunda Devi Temple is a shrine to the wrathful form of Goddess Durga or Chamunda who in Hindu Mythology is the symbol of female power. The idol of Goddess Chamunda in the temple is considered so sacred that it is completely hidden beneath a red cloth and is kept so always. Seek blessings from Goddess Chamunda & proceed for Bajreshwari Devi Temple at Kangra. The main deity of this temple is Bajreshwari Devi who is also known as Vajrayogini . She is also the incarnation of Parvati, the Goddess or Aadi Maya on the Earth. It is one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Devi Mata Ji.

After having darshan of Kangra Devi Ji we will proceed our spiritual journey to the Jwala Ji Temple. You can also visit the famous Kangra Fort which is one of the oldest standing Fort of North India.On reaching Jwala Ji in the evening check in to your hotel & freshen up.You can attend the evening Aarti at Mata Ji's temple.Night stay at hotel.

Day 3: Jwala Ji-Chintpurni
In the morning visit the Jwala Ji temple  dedicated to Jwala Devi (form of goddess), who is the presiding in the form of flames. As per the legends Jwala Ji Devi temple is also one of the 51 Shaktipeeths where the mouth or tongue of Devi Sati fell here at the time of self-sacrifice. Ever since, the Goddess occupied the place and she manifested in nine flames that are named as Mahakali, Annapurna, Chandi, Hinglaj, Vindhya Vasini, Mahalakshmi, Saraswati, Ambika and Anji Devi respectively.

Later check out from the hotel after breakfast & drive towards Chintpurni Devi temple which is about 32 kms from Jwala Ji.On reaching Chintpurni Devi check in to the hotel and later visit the Chintpurni Devi temple.According to legend the head of Devi Sati fell at this place and is thus considered one of the most important of the 51 Shakti Peeths. The Goddess is depicted in a pindi (phallic) form at the temple & is also known as Shri Chhinnamastika Devi who takes away all the worries of her devotees. The term 'Chhinnamastika' means 'without the head'.

It is believed that if you ask something from the Devi with a true heart, your wish will be granted.

Night stay will be at Chintpurni in a hotel.

Day 4: Chintpurni Devi-Naina Devi
Early in the morning you can attend the Morning Aarti at Chintpurni Devi temple.Later we will return back to hotel for breakfast & proceed our spiritual journey to the Naina Devi temple.The temple of Naina Devi Ji is positioned on hilltop & you can reach the peak of hill by following the concrete stairs or using cable car facility. The eyes of Devi Sati fall at this place. After seeking blessings from Mata Naina Devi Ji we will return back to Una. In the evening board your train & return back to your desired destination with blessings of Durga Mata Ji.

Important Tips for Devotees while visiting the Shaktipeeths

  • It is customary to cover your head with a handkerchief, shawl or cap while you are in the temple. Please dress in a conservative way. Adults are expected to wear ankle-length clothing.

  • Please leave your shoes and other leather items (e.g. wallet or belt) outside the temple. An attendant will look after them.

  • Please refrain from entering the temple if you have eaten meat or have consumed alcohol or other intoxicating drinks.

  • It is extremely impolite to point you feet towards the deities while sitting or lying down in the temple.

  • Do not shout or make unnecessary noise in the temple bhavan.
